Objectives

This work package designs the overall LiquidPub platform and integrates the various parts developed in WPs 1, 2 and 4, namely, the core SKO functions, the process plug-ins, and the evaluation plug-ins. These are the goals of the WP:

  • Define requirements for the overall system, both as a platform (for use of the SKO model by groups of users) and as an openly available service center, integrated with conferences, journals, and publishers
  • Define the overall system architecture and interfaces – and specifically the graphical interface, the service API as well as the extensibility interfaces through which plug-ins can be installed
  • Integrate and test the platform components and plug-ins delivered by the other WPs.

Tasks

WP5 is divided in three main tasks as described in table 1.

Table 1. Tasks organization for WP5
Task no. Task name Start month End month Participants
Task 5.1 Requirement analysis for the LiquidPub platform and service center M1 M27 UNITN, CSIC, SPRI
Task 5.2 LiquidPub architecture and interfaces M6 M30 UNITN, CSIC
Task 5.3 Integration of LiquidPub plug-ins M15 M33 UNITN, CNRS, CSIC

Task 5.1 Requirement analysis for the LiquidPub platform and service center

This task defines the requirements at the overall platform level (not for the individual components or plugins) and for the functionality offered by the interfaces. It also identifies the requirements for a “service center” that delivers dissemination and publication services on top of the LiquidPub platform. The task takes into account the requirements and models set from WP1- WP4. Requirements are also discussed and presented for feedback to the Advisory Board members, either via conference call or via Web, even before the first mockup prototype is ready. The study of specific user requirements is made in cooperation with case studies investigated in WP6. The task continues throughout almost the entire project lifetime and continuously revises requirements and design, as needed.

Task 5.2 LiquidPub architecture and interfaces

In this task we define the system architecture in detail and define the interfaces among the various LiquidPub components and also between LiquidPub and users/external services. Part of this task is also the design of a mechanism to allow SKO process and analysis plug-ins.

Task 5.3 Integration of LiquidPub plug-ins

This task integrates the process components and the evaluation plug-ins designed and developed in WP2+WP4.

Deliverables

The WP5 has two main deliverables released in an incremental fashion (See table 2). These two are described in the following sections.

Table 2. Deliverables for WP5
Del no. Deliverable name Delivery date (proj. month) Estimated effort (PM) Participants
D5.1v1 Design of the LiquidPub Integrated system v1 M12 16 UNITN, CSIC, CNRS, SPRINGER
D5.1v2 Design of the LiquidPub Integrated system v2 M24 12 UNITN, CSIC, CNRS, SPRINGER
D5.1v3 Design of the LiquidPub Integrated system v3 M36 15 UNITN, CSIC, CNRS, SPRINGER
D5.2v1 Integration of plug-ins v1 M24 6 UNITN, CNRS, CSIC
D5.2v2 Integration of plug-ins v2 M36 5 UNITN, CNRS, CSIC

D5.1 Design of the LiquidPub Integrated system

The deliverable D5.1 is a report which involves requirements, architecture and interfaces. This is released in three different versions:

  • V1 (M12, UNITN, CSIC, CNRS, SPRINGER, 16): first version of the requirement analysis and mockup prototype. Initial definition of LiquidPub architecture, high level description of interfaces.
  • V2 (M24, UNITN, CSIC, CNRS, SPRINGER, 12): second version, including feedback from the first prototype/mockup. Initial definition of approach to testing and test cases. Refined architecture and detailed description of the interfaces
  • V3 (M36, UNITN, CSIC, CNRS, SPRINGER, 5): final version of the document, including feedback from the usage of the V1 platform. Final version of architecture and interfaces.

Thus, as part of this deliverable it will be produced:

D5.2 Integration of plug-ins

The deliverable D5.2 is prototype of the LiquidPub platform. It has two releases:

  • V1 (M24, UNITN, CNRS, CSIC, 6): Integration of the first version of process and evaluation plug-ins
  • V2 (M36, UNITN, CNRS, CSIC, 5): Integration of the final version of process and evaluation plug-ins
